Get to know Lillooet

LILLOOET
At an elevation of only 250 m (820 ft.) Lillooet's climate combines the sunny skies of the interior with the moderating influences of the coast. Lillooet has one of the most pleasant climates in Canada, four distinct seasons without extremes: early sunny springs, warm dry summers, long mild autumns and short winters with just a touch of snow.

Dry Belt Oasis

It is not unusual for Lillooet to be blessed with over 300 hours of sunshine per month in the summer. In over 50 years of record keeping, Lillooet has averaged fewer than 80 days of precipitation annually with the total rainfall and snowfall for the year averaging only 390 mm (15in). Our semi-arid climate means that Lillooet is virtually free of mosquitoes and other biting insects.

The District of Lillooet is picturesquely located on the sage and pine covered bench lands of the Fraser River in South Central British Columbia. This location represents the junction of two major transportation corridors to the coast - Hwy 12 & the Trans Canada Hwy and Hwy 99 - which is the most scenic route connecting the Lower Mainland and the Interior.

Lillooet, with its 13 saloons, 25 licenced premises and clutter of cabins and tents, had a shifting population of over 15,000 residents in the 1860's and was the biggest little gold rush settlement in the Cariboo district (now British Columbia).

Lillooet is also surrounded by a number of great recreational lakes. Whether you enjoy sun bathing, canoeing or water skiing the 27 km long Seton Lake 5 minutes out of Lillooet provides a public beach and boat launch for cooling off in the summer months.

The Lillooet REC Centre has a 25 metre swimming pool, ice arena, weight room, squash/racquetball/tennis courts, gymnasium and library. This is a facility that a town this size is very fortunate to have!

Lillooet has a fully staffed hospital including surgical needs and a medical clinic. Other important local services include a dental clinic, physiotherapist and other health therapy practitioners. There is a resident provincial ambulance service that is ready 24/7.

Lillooet Fraser River

Lillooet is 3 hours from Abbotsford, 2 hours from Whistler and just under 2 hours from Kamloops.

In 2004 there were 20+ properties that sold in Lillooet. In January 2005 there were approx. 26 for rent ads in the local classifieds. In the year of 2005 the sales increased to approx. 72 properties being sold; 2006 approximately 78. Sale prices have increased and it has been a very exciting few years in Real Estate. In 2007 there were approximately 120 local property sales, with vacant land sales jumping from 7 in 2006 to approximately 40! For rent ads dwindled down to only three some weeks in the local classifieds. Over 2008 we saw a slow down in sales as did most of the Province, but Lillooet still held on to over 65 residential sales and rentals are still at high demand.
